What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy grounded in a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. Osteopathic practitioners use skilled assessment and treatment techniques to help the body move and function as it was designed to.

Osteopathy is guided by three core tenets:

  • The body is a dynamic unit of function — everything in the body is connected.

  • The body has an inherent ability to self-heal and self-regulate.

  • Structure and function are interrelated — when the body is aligned and moving well, it functions more efficiently.

Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, osteopathy considers the body as a whole during both assessment and treatment. Restrictions or imbalances in one area of the body can affect movement, circulation, nerve function, and overall wellbeing elsewhere.

The goal of osteopathic treatment is to restore proper body mechanics by improving mobility and reducing areas of restriction where needed. In simple terms, osteopathy aims to help your body move and work the way it was designed to.

Because every person is unique, treatment is always individualized. Your visit with one of our osteopathic practitioners will include a thorough assessment of how your body moves, followed by a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals.

Ultimately, osteopathy aims to address the underlying cause of dysfunction — not simply the symptoms.
